If you have survived Community Violence, we know that life may not look quite the same as it did before. CVTC can help you regain a sense of control and heal from what has happened. We define Community Violence broadly as violent acts committed against one person that also have the potential to impact the community. The crimes on the left fall into this category. If you have been hurt by any of them, we're here to help.
It's really important that you get medical attention immediately. At Mount Sinai West and St. Luke's Emergency Departments, your injuries will be treated, and CVTC will be able to help you after you leave. No matter where you go for medical treatment, you can still call CVTC for help afterwards.
If you have been the victim of one of these crimes, CVTC can help you apply for financial reimbursement from the New York State Office of Victims Services (OVS). Our OVS Specialist can help you file a claim for compensation. If you don't have insurance, if you've lost wages, or if your personal property was damaged or destroyed, we might be able to help.
Many people think that after being attacked the easiest thing to do is to try to forget what happened. Some people think that they should be strong enough to deal with what happened on their own. Or that what happened wasn't serious enough to deserve help. If you've been hurt, you deserve help from someone who understands what you've been through. It does not mean you're not strong; calling CVTC takes a lot of courage, and it can help more than you think.
