Job Description:

Crime Victims Treatment Center (CVTC) was founded on the simple idea that no one deserves to be hurt. Over the past 48 years, we have built the strongest team of clinicians, attorneys, legal advocates, preventionists and volunteers around. We are available from the moments after someone has been hurt, all the way through the culmination of that survivor's healing process. We work with survivors of sexual assault, intimate partner violence, childhood sexual abuse, human trafficking, community violence and homicide. We work to change culture to prevent violence from happening in the first place. We provide legal support and holistic forms of therapy. Everything we do is free.

The Role:

The ideal candidate for this administrative position working with trauma survivors is someone who combines strong organizational skills with a deep commitment to trauma-informed care. They are empathetic, emotionally intelligent, and capable of maintaining professional boundaries while providing sensitive, respectful support to individuals who have experienced interpersonal violence. This person communicates clearly and calmly, demonstrates discretion, and handles confidential information with the utmost care. They are culturally competent, adaptable to engaging with diverse populations, and committed to ethical standards, including informed consent and privacy regulations. This role requires someone who can work independently, exercise sound judgment, and provide consistent operational reliability. Prior experience in social services, mental health, or nonprofit settings is highly valued, along with proficiency in administrative systems and a genuine dedication to serving vulnerable populations.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Greet and support clients, visitors, and community partners with empathy and professionalism, ensuring a safe, welcoming, and trauma-informed environment

  • Answer an average of 15-25 calls per day from survivors of crime, providing trauma-informed support, assessing needs, and connecting them with community and legal resources

  • Maintain accurate documentation of calls and referrals while adhering to privacy and confidentiality protocols

  • Entering all cases received from hospital emergency departments daily, as well as all related services into Salesforce database, ensuring cases have been assigned to the appropriate coordinator

  • Manage daily intake and entry of clients information into Salesforce, maintaining accuracy and consistency of all data

  • Submit all Office of Victim Services applications on behalf of clients

  • Advocate with Office of Victim Services on behalf of clients

  • Provide general office support including managing correspondence and maintaining records in accordance with program standards

  • Maintain calendars and coordinate logistics for staff and community events

  • Prepare and organize records including meeting minutes, presentations, forms, and communications and retrieve or summarize information from documents and correspondence as needed

  • Provide logistical support for program activities, trainings, and workshops

  • Ensure client-facing spaces - including group rooms - are welcoming and safe

  • Organize office supplies and donation rooms

  • Maintain inventory of office and program supplies and coordinate with vendors as needed

  • Work closely with HR & Operations Director on projects and additional tasks

Qualifications & Requirements:

Required

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Fluent in Spanish

  • Ability to commute to and work from office location 5 days per week in person

  • Minimum 1–2 years in an administrative or clerical role

  • Completion of CVTC’s 40-hour NYS DOH Rape Crisis and Domestic Violence Volunteer Advocate Training in October 2025

Preferred

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., psychology, social work, human services, or business administration)

  • Experience working in social services, mental health, or nonprofit organizations is highly valued

Compensation and Benefits

We’re so glad you asked. The annual salary for this position ranges from $65,000 to $70,000, depending on experience. Candidates with at least one year of relevant experience can expect a starting salary of $65,000, with higher compensation offered to those bringing additional years of experience and skills to the role. Any future salary adjustments, including cost-of-living increases, will be at the discretion of CVTC’s Executive Staff and Board of Directors, based on organizational resources and performance.

Legal Intern/Legal Extern/Pro Bono Scholar – Legal Services Program

We are currently accepting intern applications for a Fall 2025 Start

Location: Hybrid (New York, NY – some in-person presence required)

Reports to: Attorney Program Manager, Legal Services Program

Position Summary:

The Crime Victims Treatment Center (CVTC) is seeking a Spanish-speaking Legal Intern to support our Legal Services Program (LSP). The intern will assist with trauma-informed legal advocacy for survivors of interpersonal violence, with a strong focus on Family Law, Criminal Justice Advocacy, and Immigration Relief (U visa, T visa, VAWA, asylum, SIJS).

Under the supervision of the Program Manager and legal team, the intern will gain hands-on experience working with survivors of sexual violence and other trauma through direct client support, legal research, and case preparation. This is an opportunity to contribute to survivor-centered legal work within a supportive, interdisciplinary team environment.

Key Responsibilities:


1. Legal Support and Casework

  • Support attorneys in representing survivors in Family Law matters such as divorce, custody/visitation, and orders of protection.

  • Assist with Immigration relief applications, including U visas, T visas, VAWA self-petitions, asylum, and SIJS.

  • Participate in Criminal Justice Advocacy, including liaising with law enforcement and District Attorneys’ offices to support survivors throughout the criminal process.

  • Conduct legal research, draft memos and declarations, and help prepare filings.

  • Help maintain accurate and confidential case notes and client documentation in line with CVTC policy and ethical obligations.

2. Survivor Intake and Legal Helpline

  • Conduct trauma-informed legal intakes and follow-up interviews under supervision.

  • Help respond to calls on CVTC’s Legal Helpline, providing information, support, and referrals in Spanish and English.

3. Collaboration and Training

  • Attend team meetings, case rounds, and cross-disciplinary discussions.

  • Collaborate with CVTC’s clinical and community programs to ensure holistic client support.

  • Participate in CVTC’s training opportunities to build expertise in trauma-informed, survivor-centered legal advocacy.

Qualifications:

  • Current enrollment in an accredited law school (rising 2L or 3L strongly preferred).

  • Fluency in Spanish (required); additional languages such as French and Mandarin are a plus.

  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting survivors of sexual and interpersonal violence.

  • Strong legal research and writing skills.

  • Ability to work with sensitivity, discretion, and cultural humility in a trauma-informed setting.

  • Prior experience in immigration, family, or public interest law is preferred but not required.

Additional Information:

  • Time Commitment: Minimum 15–20 hours per week during the semester or full-time during summer (time commitment will be adapted to the school program requirements for a Legal Externship and Pro Bono Scholar).

Location: Hybrid, with required in-person presence in New York City.

Compensation: Unpaid; CVTC will support applications for academic credit or funding through law schools or fellowships.
