Prevention Educator

Position Summary:
The Prevention Educator supports CVTC’s integrated domestic violence and sexual violence prevention department; primarily our Enough is Enough campus program, and also our OutSmartNYC, and Seeds of Hope initiatives. This role contributes to the development and facilitation of trainings, community awareness events, and outreach campaigns, and helps coordinate community-level prevention strategies through coalition-building, Coordinated Community Responses, and partnerships with campuses, nightlife venues, and local networks. The Prevention Educator reports to the Prevention Coordinator.
Key Programmatic Duties and Responsibilities:
Support the delivery of education and training programming on dating and domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking prevention and intervention to diverse audiences, including youth; college students, faculty and staff; and nightlife communities.
Assist in planning and implementing community awareness events, campaigns, and outreach initiatives to raise awareness, engage partners, and promote CVTC’s violence prevention and response services within the communities served.
Contribute to community-level prevention strategies by supporting Coordinated Community Responses (CCRs), coalition-building efforts, and collaborations with local networks, task forces, campuses, and other key institutions.
Support policy and systems-change efforts at partner institutions by assisting with the implementation of prevention-related policies, sharing resources, and participating in advocacy activities that advance community safety, equity, and access to prevention and response resources.
Provide training support and follow-up assistance to partner organizations, under the guidance of the Prevention Coordinator, to help strengthen and sustain prevention practices and infrastructure.
Perform administrative and program support duties, including email correspondence, needs assessments, data collection, data entry into Salesforce, and assistance with program documentation and reports.
Provide guidance and support to interns, fellows, or volunteers as assigned, and participate in team-based learning and professional development opportunities.
Demonstrate a strong commitment to the philosophy, standards, and mission of the Crime Victims Treatment Center, Inc.
Organizational Duties and Responsibilities:
Support the delivery of CVTC’s prevention programs across its three focus areas:
Enough Is Enough (EiE): Contribute to education, training, awareness campaigns, and Coordinated Community Responses on college campuses, supporting first-year student trainings, Domestic Violence Awareness Month activities, and trauma-informed policy initiatives.
OutSmartNYC: Assist with nightlife-focused training, advocacy, and connection to healing and support services, promoting safe and trauma-informed nightlife environments.
Seeds of Hope: Support evidence-informed prevention programming in middle and high schools, including healthy relationship education, bystander intervention training, and student leadership initiatives.
Assist in the delivery, coordination, development, and evaluation of sexual violence prevention trainings and activities for campuses, nightlife venues, and community settings, collaborating with colleagues, stakeholders, and organizational partners.
Build and maintain relationships with NYC campuses, nightlife venues, and other community partners, responding to training requests and facilitating workshops as needed.
Support referrals from community partners to appropriate direct services, providing brief emotional and crisis support to survivors engaged in or following Prevention programs.
Assist with the recruitment, training, and coordination of campus and nightlife volunteers, as assigned.
Represent CVTC and its Prevention Program at selected events, citywide coalitions, task forces, and external organizations as assigned.
Support day-to-day operations of prevention initiatives, including partner communications, funder responses, and program goal tracking.
Collaborate with affiliated agencies on assigned projects.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Educational/Professional Development:

Education Requirement:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent preferred
License/Certification Requirement:
Completion of CVTC’s 40-hour New York State Department of Health (NYS DOH)–approved Rape Crisis and Domestic Violence Volunteer Advocate Training within the first year of employment, leading to NYS DOH certification as a Rape Crisis Counselor.
Skills/Experience Requirement:
Demonstrate sound judgment in independent decision-making
Strong English reading, writing, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately
Experience with primary prevention and advocacy, community organizing and public speaking
Well-versed in cultural responsive practices
Strong participatory and interactive facilitation skills

Crime Victims Treatment Center (CVTC) was founded on the simple idea that no one deserves to be hurt. Over the past 49 years, we have built the strongest team of clinicians, attorneys, legal advocates, preventionists and volunteers around. We are available from the moments after someone has been hurt, all the way through the culmination of that survivor's healing process. We work with survivors of sexual assault, intimate partner violence, childhood sexual abuse, human trafficking, community violence and homicide. Our Clinical Program
CVTC provides a wide range of healing services to any survivor of interpersonal violence. Our renowned clinical team is composed of expert therapists who support survivors of violence through individual, trauma-focused therapy. In most cases, clients are seen weekly for a period of 6 to 18 months, depending on the history of trauma that brings them to CVTC. Our program prioritizes individuals who are not able to pay for services like the ones we offer and thus works to minimize barriers that exist between underserved client populations and the care they deserve. In addition to individual therapy, the clinical team offers an extensive range of group therapy options that include psychoeducation groups, relational and experiential trauma processing groups, DBT skills-building groups and many more. The program serves over 1,300 individuals annually.
The Role
The clinician in this position provides trauma-focused individual therapy in both English and Spanish to adult survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, childhood sexual abuse, gun violence and other forms of interpersonal violence, while also facilitating psychoeducational and process-oriented therapy groups. The role includes conducting intakes and psychosocial assessments, presenting cases in multidisciplinary staff meetings, maintaining accurate clinical records and offering crisis intervention, advocacy, and referrals across mental health, medical, legal and community systems. Additional responsibilities include delivering professional trainings on trauma-informed care, contributing to prevention, intervention and outreach initiatives for survivors of interpersonal violence, and supervising social work and/or mental health counseling interns as assigned. The clinician demonstrates a strong commitment to the philosophy, standards, and mission of the Crime Victims Treatment Center, Inc., with a particular focus on supporting Spanish-speaking survivors of violence.
Primary Responsibilities
Provide individual trauma-focused therapy to adult survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, childhood sexual abuse, gun violence and other forms of interpersonal violence
Facilitate psychoeducation and process-oriented therapy groups for survivors of interpersonal violence
Conduct intake assessments for services, compose psychosocial evaluations and present new client cases at weekly clinical staff meetings
Maintain accurate, comprehensive client service records and provide clients with referrals as appropriate
Provide culturally specific, trauma-informed care that is responsive to clients’ physical, psychosocial, educational, safety and related needs, tailored to each client’s individual and cultural context, with particular sensitivity to Spanish-speaking and immigrant survivors of violence
Provide crisis intervention and advocate for clients with mental health and community agencies, criminal justice and civil court systems, medical providers and other systems with which victims of crime may engage
Conduct presentations to external service providers on trauma-focused therapy and crisis counseling with survivors of interpersonal violence
Assist in the development of intervention, prevention and outreach programs tailored for Spanish-speaking survivors of interpersonal violence, specifically childhood sexual abuse, sexual assault and domestic and intimate partnerviolence
Supervise social work and/or mental health counseling interns as assigned, providing guidance and oversight

Qualifications & Requirements
MSW from a Graduate School of Social Work accredited by the Council on Social Work Education, Master’s degree from a license-qualifying Mental Health Counseling program, or equivalent
Social work licensure or limited permit upon hire, licensure within one year of employment, or equivalent
Ability to commute to and work from office location (hybrid schedule; minimum of three days in office)
Some evening hours required

Compensation and Benefits
We’re so glad you asked. The annual salary starts from $74,000 (for candidates with 0 to 18 months of post-licensure experience) and will be commensurate with the experience you bring to the table. At the beginning of each subsequent year of employment, any increase in salary shall be at the discretion of the CVTC Executive Staff and Board of Directors based on fiscal considerations and subject to favorable ratings on the employee’s annual performance review.The benefits are robust and include health, dental, vision and basic life insurance, generous vacation and holidays (including your birthday, because that is a holiday) and up to $1,000 per year of medical related expense reimbursement (for stuff not covered by insurance). Legal Intern/Legal Extern/Pro Bono Scholar – Legal Services Program

Position Summary:
The Crime Victims Treatment Center (CVTC) is seeking a Spanish-speaking Legal Intern to support our Legal Services Program (LSP). The intern will assist with trauma-informed legal advocacy for survivors of interpersonal violence, with a strong focus on Family Law, Criminal Justice Advocacy, and Immigration Relief (U visa, T visa, VAWA, asylum, SIJS).
Under the supervision of the Program Manager and legal team, the intern will gain hands-on experience working with survivors of sexual violence and other trauma through direct client support, legal research, and case preparation. This is an opportunity to contribute to survivor-centered legal work within a supportive, interdisciplinary team environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Legal Support and Casework
Support attorneys in representing survivors in Family Law matters such as divorce, custody/visitation, and orders of protection.
Assist with Immigration relief applications, including U visas, T visas, VAWA self-petitions, asylum, and SIJS.
Participate in Criminal Justice Advocacy, including liaising with law enforcement and District Attorneys’ offices to support survivors throughout the criminal process.
Conduct legal research, draft memos and declarations, and help prepare filings.
Help maintain accurate and confidential case notes and client documentation in line with CVTC policy and ethical obligations.
2. Survivor Intake and Legal Helpline
Conduct trauma-informed legal intakes and follow-up interviews under supervision.
Help respond to calls on CVTC’s Legal Helpline, providing information, support, and referrals in Spanish and English.
3. Collaboration and Training
Attend team meetings, case rounds, and cross-disciplinary discussions.
Collaborate with CVTC’s clinical and community programs to ensure holistic client support.
Participate in CVTC’s training opportunities to build expertise in trauma-informed, survivor-centered legal advocacy.
Qualifications:
Current enrollment in an accredited law school (rising 2L or 3L strongly preferred).
Fluency in Spanish (required); additional languages such as French and Mandarin are a plus.
Demonstrated commitment to supporting survivors of sexual and interpersonal violence.
Strong legal research and writing skills.
Ability to work with sensitivity, discretion, and cultural humility in a trauma-informed setting.
Prior experience in immigration, family, or public interest law is preferred but not required.
Additional Information:
Time Commitment: Minimum 15–20 hours per week during the semester or full-time during summer (time commitment will be adapted to the school program requirements for a Legal Externship and Pro Bono Scholar).
Location: Hybrid, with required in-person presence in New York City.
Compensation: Unpaid; CVTC will support applications for academic credit or funding through law schools or fellowships.
